5.1 VT Reflection Case Study - Carlos and Zaida

Q Carlos is a single father of a 2-year old girl, Zaida. He has been arriving 10-15 minutes past closing time each day. The policy says that parents who arrive late will be charged a late fee. He has asked if he could pay you directly to take care of Zaida until he arrives so that he wouldn’t have to pay the high fee. Please post a comment: • What are the possible solutions? • Is Carlos’ request reasonable? • What judgments came to mind when Carlos made his request? • What questions might you ask to learn more about his request? • Identify specific section of the Code of Ethics that supports EACH perspective (or other safeguards such as relevant laws or organizational policies)

Answer for VT Comment: I think that I would be to explain to Carlos that it would not be possible for me to accept the late fee from him. Moreover, I would advise Carlos to leave early for reaching school on time. Carlos could also ask one of his relatives/friends to ensure that his child is picked up before Carlos could reach. Carlos could then come late and pick his friend/relative and his child from the school. I think that Carlos’ request is not reasonable. Carlos could be leaving home/workplace late.
